Sweet Sunny Saturday #1

best blog postsOK, I know this is going to look like I am a copy cat :) but I am starting a bi-weekly round up of the best posts I have read online.Yes, the idea was stolen/borrowed from NittyGriddy and Kikolani, but how can you blame me!

I have been reading so many blogs lately and I kinda wanna thank all those bloggers for giving me all the lessons for free. I know my links won’t bring much to them, lol, but still…

The main reason for the round up is listing posts I found useful, that you might have missed. That is why I don’t miss Ingrid’s and Kristi’s lists, there are always great posts I missed!

How am I going to do it differently?

First, my round up will happen on every other Saturday starting today.

Second, I will  not separate posts into categories (sorry) because I am not sure I would do a good job!

What I am going to do here is tell you why exactly did I like the post and if there is something else specific about the blogger, blog or anything else I liked. I might make my own comments on the post or some observations.

I will call this Sweet Sunny Saturday. Because I love sweets and sun and they make me happy. These posts make me happy as a blogger. Hence the name :)

So let’s start  :) (the posts are not listed by any order)

1. Lisa, Get a REAL Job! – I loved this post because it is something every blogger will encounter with, if they haven’t already. Lisa is making real money with her un-real job.

What people seem to forget (those that tell you to get a real job) is that you work much more on your blog than you would on a 9 to 5 job. I am at least. I know Tristan from Blogging Bookshelf is too. Blogging (especially if you want to make money from it) is harder work than I have ever seen (and trust me, my day job is something crazy and hard anyway).

2. While at Lisa’s blog, here is another great post, that you could call SEO 101Bad, Misleading SEO Info Spreading Like Wildfire. I started learning about SEO in the summer of 2009. I learned from Lisa a lot. I also learned enough to make my static website rank great in Google for some of the targeted keywords. So I am not a total idiot when it comes to SEO. That is why I loved this post.

In simple words, peeps, pay attention to important things! Stop trying to find shortcuts. There is no over night success because you manage to trick Search Engines.

3. The next post I liked was Kiesha’s 7 Signs You’re a Hacker & 5 Ways it Can Help Your Blog. It is a part of the series she is doing with three more bloggers. I liked this post because it looks like I am a hacker in a way, lol. Loved the way how she described hackers and even showed us the way to use it to make our blogs better.

4. How To Build A Subscriber List With Mobile Marketing – I love Elise’s blog and this post is really great. It is pretty long but worth a read. There is a great video there and Elise is doing a great job with those.

Why I loved this post? Well, this is the first time I have heard of a plugin WPtouch (download here) that optimizes your blog for mobile devices. So, I checked my blog on my Blackberry phone and it was hard to navigate through it. I installed the plugin and it was the best thing! My blog looks great on mobile devices now, and if you have one of those, check my blog out! Looks so mobile-device-friendly. Thanks, Elise.

5. Tristan is rocking and I could list all of his posts here. I chose one that I like the most out of them all, and it was hard to choose. After you read his post, make sure you snoop around his blog, what ever you run into, it will be great. So for this round up I chose How to Be an Organized Blogger and Get More Done!

I love this post because it is kinda an answer to a question of mine asked in a comment on another blog. So what is Tristan teaching us here? He does more for his readers than he has to. Do the same and your blog will grow! He is also teaching us how to organize better and I started applying some of his tips, trust me it is working already :)

6. Here is a blogger I learned a lot from lately. Mr Ben Wan is a master of connecting with people. He is proving so in his last post How Important is it to Connect with Real People Online?

Ben is great at connecting. I can’t even remember how we connected, was it Twitter or some blog but I am happy to call him my online friend. Not to mention the techie part he is always willing to help with! I crashed something in my computer last night, it affected my local version of WP, I messed some databases and who knows what else. Guess who replied to my e-mail cry for help straight away!

7. 7 has always been my favorite number. Not saying this is my favorite post but this number deserves something different, and this is something different for sure! Crap, I have Nothing to Post! by Ingrid Abboud.

I believe most of you know Ingrid. Her blog is the one that inspired me to do these round ups (and to do some other things in the future). Why I like this post? Because it is different, she is telling us that there is nothing to really worry about when it comes to being late with a post and she still wrote one, lol.

8. Did you really think that I would forget Patricia? She is making her blog rock. She is also a great example of a person that connects great. And I believe she and Ingrid are queens of long comments (which I hope to extract from both of them here, lol). Are You Lurking Behind The Lavender Bush? is a post that baffled me. I read it and went “Whaaaaaat?”

I had no idea about these lurkers and I sure hope I have none here. If you are  a lurker and reading this post, you better leave a comment ;) So I guess you can always smell the lavender and learn something along the way.

9. This one is a must read! Blogging Lessons we can learn from the Romans is great and funny.

I loved it because I love Romans. Then I had to love it to save my village from being burned to the ground. Oh, and  I learned that John, the guy that let Severus do the guest post is a really cool guy that you can connect with.

10. Steve’s post 42 Internet Lifestyle Success Habits to Develop in 2011 is not one of those “my goals for 2011″ that seem to started getting on everyone’s nerves (according to tweets I saw).

Why I liked it? Because even with my ADD kicking in, I can find at least one thing to do and improve myself. 42 points made here are just too good to be missed. Also, don’t miss on Steve’s Income Trilogy free e-book.

11. I love posts that show me tools to do stuff. Here is one of those from our friendly blogger Lisa, The Fastest Way To Turn Any Blog Post Into An Article.

I liked the post because it was the first time I’ve heard about the plugin. I love Ezine articles and I am using it to get traffic to my static website. I must admit that I still didn’t get around to use this tip she gave us on this blog, but it is one of the things on my to-do list.

12. My plan for recent future is to create a list. I hate sales pitches so I am not going to do that. But I do want to connect more and I think I can do it even better through the list. So, since I have no idea (yet) how all that works I was a little bit hesitant of paying for Aweber. I found a great start point and it is MailChimp. After reading Sire’s post, I was sure I made the right decision: Why I Chose MailChimp Over Aweber.

13. 14 Facebook Applications to Encourage Fans Engagement in 2011 (I guess I should have put this post under no. 14, lol). This post is full of apps we must use this year. I will, at least. I use Facebook a lot, personally, and I want to use it much more to communicate with my online friends. So I hope to get more fans on my FB Fan page and interact with them as much as I do on this blog.

14. This was a really interesting read and a must know. How to Effectively Recycle Old Blog Posts is something I believe everyone can learn from.

I liked this post because I am looking how I will use it in the long run. I do plan to edit and repost some posts one day. There are some posts that will always be interesting and updating them with additional useful info is what can bring you more visitors. Also, it will show people that you care about what they read on your blog.

If you want to be informed about every single great article I read, you should follow me on Twitter. I always tweet the best reads.

This is excellent Brankica, and what makes it even better is that you’ve made it your own by changing the format. And what makes it even better than that is you’ve included one of my links. If you were here I would kiss you ;)

Must come back though to check out some of those other posts. I should be in bed, I’ve just come back from a 50th and I’m ready to hit the sack.

    • Brankica says:

      Lol, thanks :)

Well, I was really happy to read that post of yours and I thought it might help people who are just starting with building their list or not sure about paying for Aweber just yet.

See ya when you get some sleep :)

  2. Ben Wan says:

    Hi Brankica,

I knew you’ve released this post straight away because I got a trackback/pingback notification from it to my email box. I think you are going to have tons of friends from starting this topic, everyone you mention are just going to love you for it.

You know this series you are doing is just going to be great, because not only you are introducing your readers to great post, you are introducing your readers to the people behind those posts. In social terms this is call introducing people to others they don’t know. I just love people who do that.

Don’t we do that with the #followFriday? That’s your way of doing this on your blog.

I’ve read most of the posts you’ve mentioned up there, and those that I haven’t I going to.

    Ben Wan
P.S. Thanks for mentioning me and links.

    • Brankica says:

Hey Ben, thanks for the support :)

I noticed this week, while communicating on Twitter, that many people haven’t heard about Lisa I. for example. Which was strange for me cause she has been online for so long.

So I am glad to introduce people to each other. Also, I make sure only to recommend really good ones because I don’t want people to think “Why would she recommend that stupid guy, he has no idea”.

  3. Well Brankica, feel free to borrow ideas anytime LOL :) !

Oh, and a HUGE thank you for that wonderful mention and for the credit. Oh yeah, and for number that fantastic #7 link too :) . 7 is also my favorite number i.e. My house, my mobile number, my office numbers and everything else that has numbers in my life hahaha – there are 7′s in all of them!

But seriously – thanks so much for all that you said about me and my blog. Very cool of you.

You’ve done a hell of a job here with this roundup and I love the way you gave your own input and description of each. It’s super useful to the reader and allows us to have a better idea of what to expect and whether we’d like to go there. I’ll certainly be looking forward to my Saturday’s over at Brankica’s house now :) !

There’s actually a few posts here that I haven’t read yet so I’m excited to get started with them. Thanks for pointing them out :) .

You’re taking the blogosphere by storm my dear! Good for you! Keep those fantastic posts coming cause I’m greatly enjoying stopping by here every time!

    Enjoy your weekend.
    All the best

    • Brankica says:

      Thanks Ingrid :)
Means a lot to me, both the nice words and the long comment I was hoping for.

To be noticed among millions of bloggers you need to be different and it comes so natural to you. I love reading your blog and I wasn’t sure which post to choose cause they are all interesting. However I limited myself to a month back. But when I saw that title, I had to choose that one :) It is so cool to write a post about not writing a post. Loved it.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment and see you tomorrow at NittyGriddy, I hope :)

  4. greg urbano says:

i think tristan make everyones list of great posts, thanks for sharing your interests and reading

  5. Lisa Irby says:

Thanks for the mention Brankica! This is such a great post (and not just because I’m featured. LOL) But I really love that you didn’t just do a brief highlight, you actually explained why you liked each post which made me want to go investigate and read everything featured here. Thanks again!

    • Brankica says:

Hey Lisa, thanks for stopping by again. There were so many great posts (as you can see I could not even pick just one from you) but I thought if I would link all of them, the list would be too long for anyone to get something out of it. Plus, with my comments, it would be too long read and probably wouldn’t be as useful.

P.S. About that stalking thing we talked :) I am trying to find a way to move even closer to you, to stalk you to customize my Thesis. Lol, kidding…thanks for all the tips and help in the last year and a half!

  6. Brankica,

Great round up post. What a wonderful start; and of course thank you very much for including me in the list. I saw a few familiar faces in the mix (all great posts/blogs) but quite a few that I have not read and even a few bloggers whom I have never checked out before. It is sure to tkae up a little bit of my time today, :) .

It looks like some wonderful links…I had better get a’ readin’

    • Brankica says:

Hey Steve, I loved your 42 point list, I actually love reading list posts and that one was a good one.

I am glad you found some new faces here, I hope you will like them all. I am always giving my best to mention people that are really worth mentioning.

  7. Tristan says:

Brankica! You’re flat out ROCKING it on your blog here! It’s so awesome to see how fast it’s growing. Keep up the fantastic work!

All of that aside, this is a suh-weet roundup. I love these things. And there are several posts here that I missed, so thanks for helping me keep up :)

And thanks so much for the mention. I just added a link to this post on my brand new “Mentions” page (there’s a link in my nav menu).

And hmmm… KeywordLuv still not working, eh? I don’t know what to tell you!

    • Brankica says:

Tristan, thanks for the kind words :)
KeywordLuv didn’t work, I didn’t know how to fix it, but I will soon be changing themes and I hope it will work properly when I do.

I love these posts too. I always miss some great posts and bloggers, and Ingrid and Kristi helped me keep up with them. So I thought, why not mention some of the great one’s and after seeing comments I am glad I did. I guess more people will find their new favorite bloggers here ;)

  8. Go, Brankica!

Many people think that these kinds of posts are easy to write, but I know how much work goes into putting one of these together and you did it fabulously!

Thanks for the mention, of course, and look forward to more from you.

    Ana

    • Brankica says:

      Hey Ana.
I agree with you about putting real work into making a list. Thanks for the nice words and the comment.

I had to go back and search for some of these cause I really wanted them included here. And since I read every post I comment on (and every I would include here) it was easy to make a comment or a note about the post.

I am learning from all of you great peeps and I think I can do even better :)

  9. Lisa says:

    Hi Brankica!

Thanks so much for the shout out….I appreciate it my friend! Keep rockin the roll girl!

    Lisa

    • Brankica says:

Hey Lisa, although I love you guys and gals saying thank you, you all really deserved it :)

  10. Elise says:

Thanks for the mention Brankica! You know what? I ACTUALLY read your blog on my mobile device when I was in class (trying to hide it from my boring professor haha)… and it was super easy to read it because you had WPTouch installed. :P

    See? It works!

You listed some great bloggers here. Glad to be a part of it! Thanks! :D

    • Brankica says:

Lol, glad my blog was killing the boredom in class :)
My hubby actually saw my blog for the first time when I made him check it out on iPod. He knows about it but never actually read it. So it was funny to see him looking at it and going “Wow, this is so cool”.

  11. John Garrett says:

Brankica, you’ve done it again! I knew there was a reason you’re my blogging hero :)

You’re definitely on the same path as Kristi from Kikolani, you’re taking up all my time with these great links, lol.

I’m very glad to now be a regular reader here and I’m looking forward to everything you’ve got coming up for 2011.

Thanks so much for mentioning me, it is indeed an honor! Maybe I can finally get those goats for Severus…

    • Brankica says:

Hey John, glad you liked it. I really love the way you connect with people and that post was one of my favorites from the day I read it :)

You just keep up the great work and we will get some goats for him!

  12. Hi Brankica

I was clicked off before midnight so that’s why I didn’t arrive till this morning (already Sunday morning) and off out to our church gathering soon so this won’t be such a long comment.

Now I know you are going to be doing Sweet Sunny Saturday’s I’ll be watching for the tweet ;-)

Love that it is on a Saturday cos not a lot is published then. Also I realise that it would have taken a lot of work to get all the posts in and I love that you write a little about each one. Good job Brankica :-)

Thanks for the mention, and I reckon I know most of the bloggers here and they all write quality posts. It’s a great way for visitors to your site to be introduced to bloggers they may not know. That is one way I have met new people. By reading bloggers roundups and then visiting the blogs of those mentioned.

BTW I am no way in the league of the “Comment Queen” Ingrid. Wouldn’t even attempt to match her long comments lol

    Speak soon

    Patricia Perth Australia

    • Brankica says:

Hey Patricia, I will make sure to remind you about the Saturday post next time. I also found out about so many great blogs following other peoples round ups.

And if I ever find some extra time, I will do a word count on you and Ingrid to see whose comments are longer, lol. Joking, I know Ingrid write great long comments and I love reading them because she always has something special to say!

  13. Jimi Jones says:

Great start to a new series, Brankica.

As Ana pointed out, these are not easy to construct. They do however, show a willingness to dive in and be creative while taking on a long-term commitment. Wishing you all the best and you have my support.

    Rock on!

    • Brankica says:

Thanks Jimi, I would say that it is hard and easy at the same moment :)
Hard to choose from all the great posts, medium hard to point all the things I liked (lol) and easy to say thanks to all the bloggers that thought me so much!

  14. Lisa says:

    Hi Brankica!

Blog is looking great my friend!

    Lisa

    • Brankica says:

Hey Lisa, thanks a bunch :)

This Thesis thing is hard work, but I have decided to try to style it myself. I actually like how it is going and the coding isn’t all that complicated. The worst thing is that I still don’t have 100% picture in my head how I want it. But this is a never ending process so I am not worried :)

Thanks for stopping by…and I can’t wait for Friday ;)

  15. Brankica,

I like your new round up post. It is fun to find blogs that others love. You have picked a few I have never been to before.

    Thanks!

    • Brankica says:

Sheila, make sure you visit them :) I did my best to include only the best.
Now there are some more great blogs out there that I will try to present to everyone here because we can all learn from them.

  16. How sweet of you Brankica, thanks a bunch for sharing a link love here! :-) I don’t see why you cannot borrow this idea from Kristy or NittyGriddy, truth is not only this benefits those you’ve linked to, but also great resources for readers to meet/discover new blogs to visit. You got a big ‘Aye’ from me. Glad to see we’ve shared similar taste in blog-visiting too.

    Social/Blogging Tracker

    • Brankica says:

Hello Ching, thanks for the comment :)

I loved those apps you shared with us and I am sure many of us can use them. I have some plans for my FB fan page and the apps will be very useful to make it more interactive. Glad we have similar taste, because all these bloggers are just great.

  17. Hi Brankica,

Congratulations on your first, Sweet Sunny Saturday!

I came here because you are on Steve’s Sunday list. Oy, it’s getting complicated :-)

Now I see one two interesting articles here I need to go see.

So, I guess that means I can’t stay.

But to steal a quote my Pinky and the Brain, “OK I love you bye bye!”

    Rick

    • Brankica says:

Hey Rick, that means you better come back! You can make it on Saturdays here, not many people are posting. So don’t make me come there and drag you back here :)

Thanks for commenting and keep up that great work you are doing over there at your blog!

  18. Hi Brankica,

Thanks for sharing the comprehensive Round-Up :)

I’ve read a few of these posts but plan to check out the others.

Ana’s post is a real winner. I’ve never been bitten by the “Buy The Bright, Shiny Thing” bug but know this is a temptation many online entrepreneurs can’t resist. She broke down what isn’t worth your hard-earned money effectively and in a world of hyped up products provided us with an immensely valuable service.

Thanks again for sharing your insight Brankica.

    RB

    • Brankica says:

Yeah, Ryan, I am so glad she posted that one. It really saved a lot of money to all of us. I am really careful about buying stuff like that because all those “gurus” are only recycling old ideas. So this is really valuable info she gave us.

  19. Hey Brankica,
This is my first time dropping here. i like your round-up, especially the ‘Get a real Job’ by Lisa. You got my taste of posts.
    keep up.
